M|J Creative is a forward-thinking boutique design firm in Charlotte, NC, specializing in custom web design and website development. We are seeking a contract-based UX/UI website designer who can grow with our team. This position is ideal for someone with a clean, modern web design aesthetic and a keen eye for color theory, design principles, typography and visual hierarchy. 

A highly-motivated individual (we’re talking to you coffee lovers) who never misses a deadline and has a passion for delivering creative solutions to UI/UX web design problems is a must. This position will work both independently and directly with the owner of M|J Creative. 

JOB SUMMARY
Are you a strategic UI/UX designer who thinks outside the box to come up with creative design solutions? The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, agile and possess exceptionally strong attention to detail with the ability to strategize creative web design concepts.  The successful candidate will possess an awareness of current design trends and best practices in order to produce clean, professional designs for a variety of B2B and B2C clients. 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the creation of website wireframes, prototypes and layouts, typography selection and pairings, color palette selection, imagery and website visuals, from concept through to final design. Solid knowledge of UX/UI design principles for the web, ADA website design requirements, and website design trends is essential for success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver strategic, intuitive, executable and functional website concepts that adhere to determined guidelines. 

• Participate in internal and external meetings to understand business goals and objectives, identify specifications, ideate and present designs and design processes.

• Collaborate with developers to ensure design decisions are executable.

• Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with the M|J Creative team and external stakeholders.  

• Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps. 

• Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate website functionality and aesthetic.

• Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches).

• Prepare and present drafts to internal team and key stakeholders.

• Conduct design adjustments based on internal and stakeholder feedback.

• Update social media accounts with current and relevant photos and other written and visual content.

• Adhere to design standards on branding, typography, colors and imagery.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Proven experience as a UI/UX website designer. Preferably 1-3 years of design experience for the web. 

• Strong design portfolio of professional UI/UX design work for the web, with an emphasis on a clean, modern design aesthetic. 

• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe XD. Knowledge of Adobe AfterEffects is a plus. 

• Solid experience in creating wireframes, user flows, and sitemaps.

• Image editing and knowledge of responsive design optimization.

• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal. 

• A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn. 

• Understanding of typography and composition skills for the web.

• Working knowledge of the capabilities of WordPress, Squarespace and Shopify CMS platforms is desirable. 

• Coding expertise is not required however a working knowledge of basic HTML, CSS and Javascript is a plus. 

• Demonstrate the ability to give and receive effective feedback. 

• Ability to solve problems creatively, intuitively, uniquely, and effectively in order to create design concepts. 

• Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

COMPENSATION

Please note this is a project-based position and compensation will be negotiated on a project-by-project basis. This is a remote position but preference will be given to Charlotte-based candidates.
